Hacienda call for social network "Media Circus"
by Tom Rodgers
Salford filmmakers Future Artists are putting out their biggest ever call for creativity to musicians, filmmakers and artists. The makers of Actors Guide to Survival and Media Hype want to create a "media circus" of performances from local creative talent. On April 30th 2010 the massive collaboration will show their work at the newly-renovated FAC251 (Factory Records communications HQ, Manchester). FAC 51 was the catalogue number given to the iconic Hacienda nightclub which Tony Wilson - Salford-born music impresario and legend - founded. The Factory, FAC251 was opened by Peter Hook on 6th February, with tickets for the show selling out in ten minutes. Mark Ashmore co-owner of Future Artists, told SalfordOnline: "In collaboration with FAC 251, the fans of Factory Records and the fans of Manchester will create a once in a lifetime happening at the venue. "The aim of the project is to see how much user generated content can be created across the world, in a short space of time that echo the ethos of Factory, Manchester and Praxis. "Musicians will be invited to busk, time slots will be given, FAC 251 will become the London underground for the night!" Among the creative highlights planned for the huge exhibtion are fan-made documentaries on the themes of Factory and Manchester, buskers to play to record companies and the crowd, and artworks projected onto the walls, all to the tune of a soundscape created by fans of Factory featuring archive interviews and music. Artists will be instructed to collaborate via a huge range of social networks and on the new media networking site Media-city.tv. Mark added: "On the night film-makers and artists will be encouraged to document the night in their own unique way, and then after the event post it back on the Facebook wall where it all began."
