Stellar songs and poetry at Sand Bar, Manchester
by Mark Bright Former indie star Stella Grundy will perform tonight for the launch of John G Hall's book BANG. The ex-frontwoman of Interstella will be doing a 15 min slot, playing her own songs which she wrote after working on the theatre production of Nico Icon Play, about the iconic Andy Warhol muse and Velvet Underground member who lived in Salford in the early 1980s. "I learnt, after a fashion, to play the harmonium for the role of Nico," says Stella. "The songs chronicle the life of a character I'm developing named POP STAR and am hoping to write a kind of concept album/film so I can use theatrical language and music." The narrative songs aim to tell a story about her character, and despite a 15-year career in the music industry, Stella says "I get nervous about singing as myself these days and much prefer to be someone else. I've only performed these songs once before so hopefully it will go down well in amongst all the poetry." If this is your kind of bag, daddio, call into the Sand Bar at 120 Grosvenor St in central Manchester from 8pm. Due to problems with spam only SalfordOnline members can now leave comments.
