Major university funding will make Salford students more employable
A partnership led by the University of Salford has been awarded €400,000 funding to test and develop a range of cutting edge new technologies that will give students the edge when looking for employment after graduation.

The three year initiative will trial systems such as social media tools, personalised online careers advice, and bespoke mobile phone applications – all designed to increase students’ job prospects in a competitive employment climate.

Headed up by Salford in collaboration with three European universities and four business groups, the project’s ultimate aim is to develop innovative online platforms enabling students to interact with potential employers, showcase their portfolios of work, and access up-to-the-minute careers advice.

The funding, awarded by the European Commission, will also involve Riga International School of Economics and Business Administration, Latvia; University Miguel Hernandez, Spain; and University of Agder, Norway – in collaboration with four business partners, who will provide real-life employability advice.

The University of Salford’s Head of Employability, Claire MacLean, said: “This funding award is a major achievement. By working with key European universities and business partners on the purchase and testing of new technologies, we’ll be able to develop truly innovative approaches to employability enhancement.

“What this means for students is that they’ll be able to tap into new technologies that will enable them to enhance their CVs, record and monitor their personal learning, and access valuable employment opportunities. They’ll have a major advantage in a highly competitive job market.”
