New courses at Salford City College.
Salford City College has been funded to deliver a new programme of short taster courses in a range of vocational areas at community venues across the city. The programme runs from January to June, and currently focuses on 7 main delivery areas at an initial engagement level: Bicycle maintenance and building Childcare / crčche worker Health & Social care Catering and cooking Retail & Customer service Hair & beauty D-I-Y & multi skills The programme is particularly suitable /appropriate for: · Those who’d like to change or get a job but are not sure what’s right for them. · Those who’d like to train for a career but don’t know quite where to start looking for information or what it might entail. · Those looking for work who would appreciate further insight into different sectors · People aged 16 -25 not currently employed or in education or training who don’t know what they’d like to do next Courses typically run over 5 sessions, held once a week; they are designed to be fun, practical and stimulating. The first four sessions focus on a practical introduction to the vocational area and assume no prior knowledge; the final session focuses on where and how to go about looking for further information about jobs, progression opportunities and training in that vocational area. (The format is slightly different for the cookery courses, where it is hoped that learners will progress through 3 taster courses building up their skills until they are ready to take part in a city-wide ‘bake-off’ against other classes.) If you are interested, you can phone: 0161 631 5944 and 631 5651 The minimum age for participation in these free courses is 16 (for those no longer at school), and we ask that everyone joining a course is either willing to sign a form stating that the course will help them to look for employment, OR is in receipt of certain means-tested benefits.
