Salford students get ahead with video
Students in Salford and Manchester are set to be seen, heard and hired, following the installation of video profiling technology at three of the city’s top universities and colleges. The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and Salford City College have all joined the University Partnership Scheme from video recruitment specialist Meet The Real Me. The scheme aims to help entry-level candidates connect with prospective employers and get ahead in the overcrowded job market. Students visiting the careers departments at all three institutions are now able to launch and manage their job campaign online using e-me – the next generation’s new job-seeking tool. E-me is an online profile that combines all the elements of a traditional CV with the added benefit of a short, structured video interview to capture their personality and enthusiasm alongside qualifications and experience. With its own individual URL link, candidates are then free to share their e-me with employers to apply for any job, anywhere in the world. Dr Martin Patrick, University Partnerships Manager at Meet The Real Me, says: “Amidst the highest unemployment rate for 17 years, the increasing numbers of graduates and the economic downturn have made it harder than ever for entry-level jobseekers to get noticed by employers – but the good news is that universities and colleges in Manchester are taking the right steps to help their students stand out from the competition. “As part of the scheme, Manchester’s students can create and improve their e-me before they graduate, with support from their careers staff, as well as benefiting from access to a dedicated area on our website. This means they will be one step ahead when their final year comes to an end and their job hunts really begin.” Jobseekers across Manchester and its surrounding areas can also shine online by visiting www.meettherealme.com and creating their own e-me. It is quick and easy to do – all it takes is a webcam, internet access and plenty of enthusiasm. Once they have recorded their e-me, candidates can then share it with any prospective employer, whether it is via email, job boards, social networks or smart phones. Source: Richmond Towers.
