NATO Protects Food Aid Delivery from Pirates off the Coast of Somalia

NATO is working to deter piracy and secure the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the people of Somalia, and to enhance the safety of commercial maritime routes and international navigation in the waters off the Horn of Africa.

Under "Operation Allied Provider", ships from NATO's Standing Maritime Group are escorting vessels from the World Food Program through the dangerous waters off the coast of Somalia, helping ensure food aid reaches millions of people in need in Africa.

Shotlist:
"Most people don't know that NATO is helping the people of Somalia. Three vessels from NATO's standing naval fleet have broken off from their normal exercises in order to escort vessels from the World Food program and vessels of the African Union Peacekeeping operation to make sure they get safely through pirate-infested waters to deliver their supplies to the people of Somalia."
