Virtual Tests to Drive $1M in Donations for Autism Research

Non-profit group Autism Speaks and car group Chevrolet are collaborating to raise $1 million for autism research.

Chevrolet indicates it will provide a donation for every time a person goes to the Autism Speaks Web site and takes a virtual test drive of the 2008 Chevy Malibu. The company will contribute a minimum of $500,000, however, it will continue to a make an additional donation for every vehicle tested online until a grand total of $1 million as been accumulated. Autism, a condition diagnosed in one out of every 150 children, is a complex neurobiological disorder that health experts say is more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined. While autism is not specific to any particular race, ethnicity or social group, it is four times more common in boys compared to girls. April is Autism Awareness Month.
