A Place Called Happiness
Presentation of research into the neighbourhood experiences of carers of people with dementia in Salford
When? Tuesday 13th September 2011 Time: 1pm – 3.00pm Where? Humphrey Booth Resource Centre 16-18 Worsley Road, Swinton, M27 5WW An invitation the University of Manchester We are writing to invite you to a short presentation about a piece of research that has been taking place in Salford recently. The research set out to explore how carers of people with dementia experience their neighbourhoods and the social networks within them. We are holding a small event to present our first impressions from the research and to discuss how we might take this research forward. We want to share the results of the research with others who care for people with dementia or who support them in either a professional or a voluntary capacity. A small buffet lunch will be available from 1pm and the presentations will begin at 1.30 in the Conference Room and last for an hour. If you are unable to attend yourself you can nominate someone in your group or organisation to go instead – please pass this invitation to them. The research has been funded through the Manchester Interdisciplinary Collaboration for Research on Ageing (MICRA) through the University of Manchester and has been undertaken by a team from the University of Manchester, The University of Salford and Manchester School of Architecture. We have talked to current and former carers of people with dementia from across Salford, been shown around the neighbourhoods where they live, listened to the ways in which carers create and are helped by networks of family, friends, neighbours and volunteers, as well as key workers in order to continue their role as carers. We would like to ask that you return the slip at the bottom of this page or get in touch using the contact details below to let us know you are interested in coming along. Places are limited so please register your interest as early as possible.
