Lowry adds new classroom with Nash cash

Following a donation described by the Lowry as “one of the most significant from an individual donor in the organisation's history”, the Carole Nash Classroom was born. The Altrincham-based founder of motorbike insurance company, Carole Nash Insurance, enjoyed a ceremony for the naming of the studio-classroom in the Lowry’s galleries yesterday.Along with the benefactor grandmother, three generations of the Nash family, along with their classes from two Cheshire schools (Pownall Hall School in Wilmslow and Forest School in Hale) took part in a visual arts workshop in the Community & Education suite classroom named after their grandmother. The naming ceremony was led by Felicity Goodey CBE.
Stephen Crocker, The Lowry’s Development Director, said: “Carole’s donation is testament to her commitment to supporting and developing young people as well as her love of the arts. We are absolutely thrilled that she has chosen to support The Lowry in this way and I’m delighted to welcome her to The Lowry family.”
The Nash classroom is the first Lowry space named after a major donator. As the Lowry themselves state on their website:
"As a registered charity, which receives only 16% public subsidy, we work very hard to generate our own income. For every £1 of public funding received, The Lowry must raise £6 in order to sustain this magnificent building and our programme of activities."
How about a SalfordOnline wing? Anyone spare some change for a cupla rooms?
