Salford Software supply NHS with identity database

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust has gone live with an identity management system implemented by Salford Software to support its 5000 staff - streamlining and automating current provisioning and synchronisation processes between the Trust and the NHS Electronic Staff Records (ESR).

The synchronisation of identity data between the Trusts records and the NHS ESR ensures that staff user account information is kept up to date providing the authoritative staff identity data source for systems from the Trust's 100 + sites in the boroughs of Croydon, Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham.

"Staff turnover in the NHS can be as much as 20% per month, so it's imperative that we keep our staff records up to date as employees, including hospital staff, join and leave us," said Chris Irving, IT Services Manager, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

"Integration with the national NHS ESR will ensure that when a 'resource' joins or leaves the Trust, internal systems are triggered to add, change or remove the user within the Trusts internal staff directories.

"Likewise changes in user details can be synchronised between systems and department moves or employee role changes will result in appropriate modifications to user access rights."

User passwords are also synchronised between connected systems allowing for staff accessing the information to see the same view of an employee regardless of the system that they use, and for the employee to be able to use the same sets of credentials to access multiple systems.

Reducing complexity to the user and generally enhancing user experience is resulting in business benefits through a reduced load on the Service Desk, reduced administration in user management and the quality of data which is held on the Trust's systems being significantly improved.

"We're delighted to be working with South London and Maudsley to provide it with a solution to keep staff account information up to date with the NHS ESR. It is already making life easier for staff when accessing the many internal systems, and reducing the burden on administration and IT when adding new users and removing ex-employees and keeping staff HR records up to date," said James Doggart, MD, Salford Software.
