Salford MediaCity Boss Departs
There’s been a changeover at MediaCityUK as the Salford site lost its managing director, Brian Greasley, after just a year on the job.
The 46-year-old entrepreneur was brought in to oversee the arrangement of the £500m complex at Salford Quays, but quit this week after completing just over a year of service. Peel Holdings, which owns the 200-acre site, said Greasley was `now looking forward to seeking new challenges', having done the job he was brought in to do.
Rumblings of discontent over the direction of the future of the MediaCityUK project may have ousted Mr Greasley from his position. The father of four had pledged to make the Salford Quays site “the new Silicon Valley”, attracting private sector businesses far beyond the media and support sectors. However, the only anchor tenant at the site is the BBC, who are moving five departments and 1600 workers there in time for its scheduled opening in 2011.
Salford Council leader John Merry, who has been closely involved in the development plans for the project, said: "I understand that Brian feels that he has taken the development as far as he can, and now wishes to move on and do something else. He has got it off the ground, and now that it is up and running, he wants other challenges."
