Beauty and the Geek: Combating Stress and IT Careers
STRESSED female technologists are being offered the chance to combine work, networking and a little light relief from the stresses and strains of the hi-tech world with a new event called Beauty and the Geek. The first evening, which will be held on November 26th, will include mouse finger massage treatment to combat the effects of heavy computer usage.
Cath Murphy, who runs Manchester based beauty therapists beauty Heaven Spa where the events will be held, says that she came up with the idea after reading about repetitive strain injury (RSI).
Cath Murphy, owner of Heaven Spa, comments: “I have quite a few clients who are in the IT industry and I know they work long hours, especially hunched up over their keyboards. So when I came across an article about RSI I knew there was an opportunity to help on a number of levels.”
According to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, almost 450,000 UK workers have upper limb RSI. And between 2003 and 2004, about 4.7m work days were lost to RSI, as workers took an average 18 days sick leave.
The evening will also include a talk from Lorna Mitchell, a prominent commentator on the Internet industry as well as a chance to network in a relaxed environment. Local blogging and beauty experts will also be in attendance.
