Rise of Smart Cities across Asia herald - new opportunities for North West firms
Half-day seminar targeted at North West companies looking for opportunities across ten markets in Asia - MediaCityUK, Salford Quays, from 10.30-16.00 on Tuesday 14 February.

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is hosting a seminar to highlight the huge opportunities for local businesses brought by the rise of Smart Cities in high growth markets across Asia.

The event will focus on the findings of UKTI’s new report Smart cities of the future in Asia: The opportunities for UK business’, published on Thursday 9 February 2012.

A panel of UKTI and industry experts will present over 120 projects of interest, across a range of business sectors, including: buildings and the environment, education, energy, health, digital media, and transport. The panel will include:

* Steve O’Leary, UKTI Director, Infrastructure and Low Carbon will chair the event and talk about UKTI’s High Value Opportunities programme.

* John Davies, UKTI’s Global Strategy Technology Adviser will discuss UKTI’s ICT strategy framework for Asia.

* Tim May - Director of Sustainable Urban and Regional Futures centre at the University of Salford will provide a local view on the development of UK expertise in smart solutions.

* Iain Jawad - Frost & Sullivan will be present the key findings of UKTI’s new report into Smart Cities in Asia.

Up for discussion will be specific projects highlighted in the report, for example:

- The new Rapid Mass Transportation Network in Bangkok.

- 4G network deployment in Hong Kong.

- Malaysia's use of e-learning via electronic media to boost its Literacy and Numeracy Programme;

- Vietnam’s National Energy Efficiency Programme;

Steve O’Leary, UKTI Director, Infrastructure and Low Carbon, who will be chairing the event commented:

“As the dynamic cities of Asia grow over the next few decades, the UK is well-placed to help provide smart solutions and the technology needed in these cities. We want to ensure that innovative UK companies and British expertise play a significant role in their development, and we urge companies keen to be at the forefront to attend this event.”

There will be also interactive market clinics led by senior UKTI representatives from all ten markets in Asia, accompanied by locally based International Trade Advisers, and experienced business speakers. These sessions will focus on the detail of specific projects in each market and the support available from UKTI to pursue them.

Registration is restricted to two representatives per company and costs £65.00 plus VAT per attendee.
