Census delivers major boost for jobseekers in Salford
With recruitment now commencing for the first of 1,300 full and part time vacancies at what will be Europe’s largest data scanning centre, jobseekers in Salford are being encouraged to benefit from the jobs boost which the 2011 Census will deliver. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) announced earlier this year that the data capture operation behind next year’s census is being managed and run by UK Data Capture Ltd (UKDC) and will be based in Trafford, Greater Manchester. Working closely with Jobcentre Plus, UKDC is now recruiting for Team Manager and Team Leader roles, followed by data handling and other vacancies in the autumn. Full details are available from Jobcentre Plus and through the UKDC website. Pip Whitty, Head of HR at UKDC commented: "The jobs UK Data Capture is creating at Trafford Park will be a tremendous boost to the economy in Manchester and the North West. Recruiting and training the Team Leaders for our operation is a critical phase in the successful delivery of the 2011 Census. We are confident that the region will provide great people with the right skills and enthusiasm to ensure the success of this very important programme." Phil Lowthian, Jobcentre Plus District Manager added: "We are ideally placed to match these vacancies to local people with the right skills and keen to work with UK Data Capture to maximise such employment opprtunities for Greater Manchester.” In March 2011, each household in England and Wales will receive a questionnaire through the post. The questionnaires can then be completed and returned by post or by using a new secure online questionnaire. Paper questionnaires returned by post will be delivered to the secure Trafford site to be processed. The job creation initiative is also supported by other local partners, including the NWDA, MIDAS, Trafford Council, Skills Funding Agency and Work Solutions. Source: Department for Work and Pensions.
