MP urges young people to show UK talent
WorldSkills UK write for ePolitix.com asking those with vocational skills to register for this year's series of competitions. WorldSkills UK is on the hunt for talented individuals to take part in this year's series of competitions, where the best-skilled people in the country will battle it out against each other to be crowned the UK's best. WorldSkills UK is open to young people and adults who have gained, or are working towards vocational skills. All you need to do now is enter online by Friday 19th March 2010 at www.worldskillsuk.org for most skills. This year is the last chance for you to get involved in WorldSkills London 2011, as competitors invited to compete in UK finals held before 5th July 2010 may have a chance of being selected for inclusion in a shortlist for the largest international skills competition when it is held in London from 5th–8th October 2011. Gordon Marsden MP, chair of the associate parliamentary skills group, said: "I urge all of you to promote WorldSkills UK competitions and encourage colleges and businesses in your constituencies to enter their talented students and apprentices. Now more than ever, skilled industries are crucial to the future success of our economy. Entering skills competitions really does have a tremendous effect on competitors and their employers alike. The benefits to both are immense and we really want to see more people entering competitions to prove to the whole of the UK just how many talented people we have in this country." Past winners of the WorldSkills UK competitions have gone on to win promotions in their company, become managers, set up their own businesses and work for some of the best companies in the world. The benefits of entering are endless, especially in the current economic climate when employers are looking for that 'something special' on CVs. WorldSkills UK competitions run both regionally and nationally each year across the UK and aim to help lift standards of training and performance, promoting world class skills and international competitiveness.
