With an estimated four million children watching the X factor finals last weekend the Saturday show was considered too adult for a family show before the 9 PM watershed.
The Daily Mail on 14 December 2010 ran the headline 'X FACTOR SLEAZE STORM GROWS: TV WATCHDOG TO ACT AFTER THOUSANDS PROTEST OVER 'DISGUSTING' PRIME TIME SCENES. XXX Factor show comments by Simon Icke
WHILST I have enjoyed watching the X Factor over recent weeks and have been caught up in the speculation of who is going to win and who should win etc, I feel I must complain about the pornographic nature of the show on December 11.
The programme producers were completely out of order to allow what can only be described as 'soft porn' dancing performances by the professional singers and their back up dancers. Simon Cowell probably thought he would probably add some more 'spice' to the show; but instead this decision succeeded in taking so much away from what was already a successful show.
It gave out the wrong message; that women are nothing but sex objects to be exploited just for their bodies. This might appeal to millions of leering men but did anyone think about the millions of children watching this show or the millions of women who would be so offended by such sexual exploitation of women? ( not to mention many guys like myself who try to treat all women with respect).
These kinds of images contribute to reducing women to no more than sex objects to be used by men which can sometimes lead to some men sexually assaulting women, as they believe women have no value, other than to be used for sex.
This decision to exploit women in such away on a family show was completely out of order and wholly inappropriate before the 9pm watershed especially, but even after 9pm it would have been wrong. It was a really bad decision that has offended a large percentage of normally enthusiastic X Factor viewers.

Yes, or the Daily Mail saying "We apologise for printing these pictures but you have to see them to understand the outrage"! People whipping themselves up into a angry frenzy for no reason - I predict stress and heart attacks for those who are sad enough to complain about "pornography" on TV. |

Simon, lighten up and get a life!! And the same goes for the hundred or so prudes who complained! Most kids probably didn't even notice the costumes and dancing as they're more interested in the music(?) from these popular acts who were guests and not under the control of Simon Cowell. And anyway, they were considerably less pornographic than Madonna's cone-boobs stage acts, and nowhere near as erotic as Pan's People were, or as blatantly sexual as Hot Gossip were - all of which aired even earlier in the evening than X Factor does. And have you seen the presenters of Blue Peter lately? I think the truth is that those who complained were sexually turned on by it and are now trying to hide their own embarrassment and self-disgust, (like Mary Whitehouse's "I saw it, and it was disgusting!", when in fact she became addicted to 'it'). Or is this just yet another pathetic "bring down Simon Cowell" attempt? |
