Proposed Barton Renewable Energy Plant
SalfordOnline reader, Peter Kilvert who readers may remember as from The Friends Of Salford Cemetries group has sent us this story which strictly speaking isn't in Salford but will affect people in Salford if it goes ahead.

The proposed Barton Renewable Energy Plant, to be located next to Davyhulme Sewage works, plans to burn (not incinerate) bio-mass, ie agricultural waste, timber from demolition sites and plastics/pvc.

This is a recipe for producing toxins such as dioxins, PCBs, PAHs and heavy metals. These will go up the chimney (hopefully being captured on the way) and float on the prevailing westerly breeze to be deposited in Eccles, Weaste, Ordsall in particular.

The protest group (Breathe Clean Air Group) is holding a public meeting next Wednesday 6th October at 7.30 pm at Christ Church, Lostock Road, Davyhulme, Urmston, (about 300 yards from M60 Junction 9) . Salford residents will be most welcome.

Hi Peter, I have just been reading your piece on the Salford Online page thanks for that, I am one of the first members along with a some others of the breathecleanairgroup.co.uk This dirty plant will affect everyone, and I cannot believe that Peel are planning to build this dirty toxic plant in a highly residental area. Please try and come along to the meeting it should be good. Just a thought before I go this is a large plant handling 200.000 tonnes per year, large plant in Scotland have been rejected lets hope this one is as well.
