National Fame for deep-fried Eccles Cake
by Tom Rodgers and Tony Flynn

It only took a week, but the national papers have caught up to what's going on in Salford.

Last week (10 July) we reported from unveiling of the newest dessert treat based on a regional classic: where lightly battered Eccles Cakes were deep-fried and smothered in raspberry sauce to create the 'Eccles Fritter'. See the original and best video here (simply click on the title and it will take you straight there):
Secret Fritters Finally Unveiled

Then we filmed from the Shop Local Fete in Eccles where the pastries were selling, well, like hot cakes: Shop Local

And last night we filmed the filming of the Granada Reports report. If that makes sense.

See the video here: Granada Reports on Eccles Fritter

This new local delicacy has gone down a storm not just with locals but with journalists and editors across the country.

First the MEN leapt on the bandwagon, then a day later Granada Reports, by 15 July the Daily Mail had picked up the story, then the Daily Telegraph today. It just shows you how quirky stories like this can spin out across the country. And if you're a wannabe journalist, it's interesting to take note of the regional stories that end up getting national coverage.

Thanks to Kerry Martin at Salford City Council for all her hard work.

Grimes is a professional miserable git, he belongs in the Daily Mail or some other such hate-filled rag. Good on yer anyway Linda and co, don't believe the haters, keep repping Eccles!

Just read Andrew Grimes article in the MEN about the Eccles cakes, what a miserable old sod he is, can he not see that this an unusual way of bringing trade back into Eccles, anyway they are not deep fried like the Mars Bars they enjoy so much in Glasgow. Linda should be congratulated for helping start some interest in the town, lets hope the rest of Eccles shops follow this and help bring back life into Eccles town centre.
