With Salford battling Peel over historic peat extraction contracts, now is the time to get your objections in.
Two environmental protesters were recently charged with public order offences after chaining themselves to diggers involved in peat extraction on Barton Moss.
Salford’s planning lead member Cllr Derek Antrobus said: “Curbing climate change is a central aim of the planning system and peat bogland is an important carbon sink. There can be no justification for its continued exploitation.”
From the Salford Labour website: "Four historic permissions exist for peat extractions on Chat Moss from a period when planning rules were more relaxed. Salford faces a battle with Peel Holdings who have also responded to the consultation. They argue that there is no justification for a ban."
You can object against the renewal of the peat extraction licences by sending an objection letter to Salford City Council, Emerson House, Albert St, Eccles, M30 0TE or email planning.contact@salford.gov.uk.
You can also object online at http://www.salford.gov.uk by searching for the Planning Application: 10/58826/FULEIA.
There is also a Facebook Group set up to publicise these objections called SAVE THE NORTH WEST GREENBELT AND GREENSPACES where you can find letter templates and all sorts of information on these campaigns. The group meets on the third Thursday of every month at 7pm, at Higher Irlam Social Club, Cutnook Lane, Irlam.
If you'd like to get involved, get protesting or just like to find out more email saveournwgreenbelt@yahoo.co.uk or phone Jackie on 07762552187.
