Cameron fiddles whilst England burns.
We have received this newsletter from Peter Kilvert of the Breathe Clean Air Group who are opposed to the opening of the proposed Barton Renewable Plant at Davyhulme.

Unlike Emperor Nero, who allegedly played his violin whilst Rome burned, the Prime Minister is doling out £billions of taxpayers money to the incineration industry to burn trees. This is in a bid to create energy from biomass which the Government claim is carbon neutral.

In fact burning trees creates 50% more carbon dioxide than burning coal and 330% more carbon dioxide than natural gas per unit of energy. In Davyhulme, Greater Manchester, the proposed Barton Renewable Energy Plant has had a severe knock back from Trafford Council, when planning permission was unanimously refused. However, the proposers of the plant, Peel Energy, may appeal against the democratic decision of the Council, and there is also the hurdle of being issued with an Environment Agency Permit or not.

“Carbon dioxide is not our only concern” said Peter Kilvert, chairman of the Breathe Clean Air Group, “as this plant is to burn waste wood and waste plastics, we are concerned about toxic emissions such as nitrogen oxides, arsenic, lead, fine Particulate Matter, dioxins and other organic chemicals. All this next to an Air Quality Management Area too”.

The Government subsidies for this so-called renewable energy from burning biomass has caused the price of wood to double. This could be catastrophic for the wood panel and furniture industries, with thousands of jobs at risk. “Wood from construction and demolition sources should be recycled, not burnt”, said Mr Kilvert.
